Christmas - already - how time flies.

December 22nd, 2005..
It's almost Christmas and time to reflect on the past year's events. I started this site almost 2 months ago with all of the enthusiasm of innocence. I started this site with hope and wide eyed wonder - a lot like the little children at Christmas who are all in awe of the lights, the noise and prospects of what Santa might bring. Running a new web site isn't much different. It is magical. It is wonderful. It is full of anticipation of what might come. Over $3,000 in income since I started this isn't bad but it doesn't make me into a millionaire by loonie standards. That's fine. I'm not anywhere near done yet. My site's ratings keep climbing and visitors keep coming so this is far from a dead site.I've got lots of promotional plans for this site that I'll put into action once we are all past the Christmas rush. I'd like to wish everyone who advertised with me and everyone who visits our site and clicks through the ads a very Merry Christmas and a Happy new year too!!!

Finally! A nonprofit society/charity has taken us up on our offer of a free ad space.

December 1st, 2005..
I'm surprised it took this long for someone to take advantage of our free ad space for good causes such as charities and nonprofit societies. We have dedicated 10% of our ad space to the service of our communities and thought it would be snapped up in days. I hope this shows others how easy it is to get exposure for their charity on our site.

Macleans Magazine article!

November 30th, 2005..
What a thrill to see myself in the same company as the "NewsMakers" of the week in the very Canadian magazine called Macleans. Great picture of me. They did a nice job of quoting my interview with them. It's always amazing how clear an editor can make my ramblings sound in an interview. You can check out the article (I scanned it) in my Press page on this site.

CBC Radio Canada interview!

November 29th, 2005..
Had a great interview on CBC Radio today and the visitors came pouring in to see what it was all about. Thanks CBC Radio. We've been averaging about 2000 unique visitors per day for the last week which has been sending lots of traffic to each of our advertisers on this site. What would you do with hundreds of prospects visiting your site every day? We can send them to you. All you have to do is sign up for a $100 spot. It's good for 5 years. A real bargain when you think about it.

Another $100 sale!

November 25th, 2005..
Another $100 sale - thanks. I'm glad that happened. I was beginning to wonder if anyone was out there. I've made some nice changes to the site that nobody will really notice but they are still there to insure an even better experience for the visitors and advertisers on our site. I continue to fine tune this wonderful advertising media as I get ready for the next jump in traffic to our site.

Educating the newbies.

November 24th, 2005..
I just added a slide in popup that gives the first time visitor a quick snapshot of what they are looking at and why it is important to them to look a little closer. I hope this will help encourage some sales from the newbies who, at first, have no idea what they are looking at.

New targeted traffic.

November 22nd, 2005..
Traffic is picking up again as we have started funneling targeted traffic in from some of the busiest sites in the world. We are excited about the prospect of good steady traffic of thousands of visitors a day as opposed to the temporary bumps from press releases. We are tweaking the flow as we include more groups that would be interested in the advertising value of our pixel ads. I am confident this wil work out well. It is part of our committment to you to ensure that you get the traffic you are expecting for your advertising buy. Sorry for the lack of blog entries - I had a cold that knocked me down good and hard. Only starting to get out from under it now.

The web server died.

November 17th, 2005..
It's a good thing I had that day of rest yesterday. Today I spent all day pacing the floor and answering calls from people concerned about the site that disappeared. Apparently the hard drive that the web site was on crashed and it took the web guys all day to bring it back to life. I've been assured that they replaced the drive with a new one. Odd thing is - this is a new server. I guess sometimes sh.. just happens. So it was a wasted day in promo land.

A day of rest.

November 16th, 2005..
This ended up being a day of rest after a whirl wind week and a half of constant interviews. I am thankful for the pause - needed to get some sleep and to get a term paper handed in. Hoping for great things tomorrow.

A big day for exposure on CBC Radio Canada

November 15th, 2005..
Had a great day with interviews - CBC Radio Canada interviewed me for a segment that covered British Columbia at least. I don't know if it went further than that but I expect it might have. It was a lot of fun. Also did an interview with Macleans magazine. I am looking forward to that one too. Had lots of enquiries about our site today but no new sales. A bit disappointing but I guess Canadians are not as quick on the uptake of neat new ideas as others might be.

Local news yesterday, Provincial News today and National News tomorrow

November 14th, 2005..
Amazing how well this viral marketing is working out. Tomorrow we'll be interviewed live on a national radio network. This is fantastic. We need to get the word out and that is exactly what is happening. We had a great review in the Province paper from Vancouver, BC. Thanks!! We also had a great segment on the evening news at our local station CHBC news. I'm always impressed with how they can catch the essence of a story and make it short, yet informative. Sales are inching up and traffic is definitely soaring - very exciting.

TV crew and The Province paper showed up at my home for interviews - wow!!

November 13th, 2005..
This is a lot of fun! I didn't think I'd get this much attention so soon. On the phone all day - Interviews, sales and photos. I am sure the neighbours are wondering what is going on by now. Made another $400 sale today. Interesting site about Wealth Management. I can see from the stats that our traffic is doubling every day - incredible. All right ...... now back to being a student. I have a big paper due in a few days. Better get it done NOW!!!

We are in the local paper today!!!

November 12th, 2005..
Today I made it into our local paper - the Kelowna Courier - Nice article and picture of me to show my friends. Lots of visitors to the website - it's obvious that the word is getting out. Lots of new press release sources are showing up. Things are starting to buzz around here. Lots of people calling and talking about signing up. I hope they do.

We just crossed the $1000 line - yahoo!!!

November 11th, 2005..
The press releases worked! Visitors are starting to show up and we're ending up on sites we never contacted. This is fantastic. Hey - we even sold another 400 pixel ad and have commitments for a few more. We just broke the $1000 dollar ceiling - our first grand - how cool is that?

Called my friends. Getting ready to sell some more pixels.

November 10th, 2005..
Today I sent out more press releases to make sure I covered the Canadian press as best as I could. It is a Canadian site after all! I had a lot of fun calling my friends and getting my dad to call his friends to drum up some new business to get this thing rolling. Nothing like selling a few more to prove the concept. We're hoping that in a few days we'll have more clients and the ability to use some of them as reference sites for a case study or two. This is turning out to be quite a marketing exercise - more interesting than the economics class I am taking right now.

Sent out the first press releases.

November 9th, 2005..
Today I started promoting this site in earnest. I spent some money on Press Release services to help spread the word. Then the PR services came back and said I would have to wait until Friday to see distribution of my press release unless I paid a fortune to do so now. At this point I don't have a fortune so I didn't. Bummer. Well, on to the next promotional strategy - contact everyone I know.

The first 100 pixels sold.

November 8th, 2005..
Well, it all has to start somewhere so I hit my dad up for the first sale. After all he encouraged me to do this. I'm hoping for a wild ride.

The MillionLooniePage is launched.

November 7th, 2005..
So, I was surfing the web the other day and saw a web site called MillionDollarHomePage.com. I saw the success that Alex Tew was having with his idea and thought to myself "I should do the same thing - only different - I'll make it All Canadian - because that is what I am and proud of it!"

I, too, was looking for a way to pay my way through university on my way to being a High School history teacher. So ...... as crazy as it sounds I decided to dive in and make it happen. Thankfully, I was familiar enough with making websites to be able to pull this off in short order. So now it's time to try and make a million loonies by selling 1,000,000 pixels, for $1 each.

And so 'The Million Loonie page' is born...
